Working Student (f/m/d): Restructuring of the Calculation Engine Interface in Walldorf

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
A key aspect of the HANA database is the option to push computations down into the data base. These computations, resembled by so-called calculation views, can be either modelled in a user-friendly way through an UI or automatically by other tools. Thus, the interface responsible for these calculation views sits at a crucial position within the core architecture.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
The interface shall be modernized to be ready for future changes in the HANA architecture. Also, there is a plan to make it available for external customers, which requires some additional attention to cleanliness and documentation.
Tasks for the student (
f/m/d):

  • Understanding some of the key HANA components
  • Understanding the relevant code and the development workflow
  • Refactoring and rewriting code
  • Writing tests
  • Ideally helping to drive informed design decisions

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Currently enrolled as a student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences 
  • Preferred fields of study: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering
  • Computer skills:  good C/C++ coding skills, Working knowledge of Databases and SQL
  • Language skills: English
  • Soft skills: Conscientiousness
  • Others: Experience with XML/XSD is not required but is a plus
