PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Customers rely on SAP delivering trustworthy secure products. Therefore, SAP also engages in research on the current trends in software security as well as in educating the development organizations accordingly. The organization SAP Security Research takes upon the responsibility to prepare SAP’s future of secure products and delivers new security-driven technologies for SAP’s products and services. Our research is based on co-innovation through collaborative research with leading universities, partners, as well as SAP’s internal product groups.
Within this security research group, we look for a motivated PhD student to work with us on applications of machine learning in the context of security. This research work will be part of one of our projects on exploring recent scientific trends like deep learning on graph structured data in order to improve automated detection of vulnerabilities and attacks during both development and operation of complex software systems.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
You will have the chance to work with internationally leading research experts on state of the art security topics leading to successfully pursue your PhD degree. In a collaborative environment, we expect you to research, invent and evaluate new security technologies, implement and validate your research results, as well as externally publish your findings on international conferences. You should have strong analytic skills, programming experience, an attitude to identify and solve research problems, and the ability to communicate your research inside SAP and externally in the academic community.
Ideally you have a background in IT Security with focus on threat detection. You should know programming languages such as Python or Java and demonstrate knowledge of machine learning technologies.
We will provide a stimulating environment, an international, motivated team based in Karlsruhe and Sophia Antipolis (France) and will give you support for finding an academic supervisor.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Motivation and dedication to pursue a PhD degree
• Completed MSc or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar combined with a scientific interest in IT-Security
• Technical knowledge about Algorithms & Data Structures combined with sound programming skills (e.g. Python, JavaScript, JAVA or C++)
• Hands-on experience and knowledge of machine learning
• Good communication & writing skills (Fluent English, German is a plus)
• Team Player, flexible & dedicated

Please tell us if you have experiences as a working student or even as a young professional. We do not expect you to have any major prior work experience though this may of course be beneficial. We want you to integrate into a research team, deliver high-class research, while at the same time, demonstrate the applicability of the research results to SAP’s product portfolio.

Please describe as well your experience and skills in foreign languages and computer programs/ programming languages.
