Intern/Working Student (f/m/d): Security Research on Post-Quantum Cryptography Implementation in Karlsruhe

Jobbeschreibung

SAP started in 1972 as a team of five colleagues with a desire to do something new. Together, they changed enterprise software and reinvented how business was done. Today, as a market leader in enterprise application software, we remain true to our roots. That’s why we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures.

SAP values the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering creativity and building lasting relationships with our employees. We know that a diverse and inclusive workforce keeps us competitive and provides opportunities for all. We believe that together we can transform industries, grow economics, lift up societies and sustain our environment. Because it’s the best-run businesses that make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

As the market leader in enterprise application software, SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries to run better. From back office to boardroom, warehouse to storefront, desktop to mobile device, SAP empowers people and organizations to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition.
Customers take it for granted that SAP develops and operates trustworthy, secure products and services. To help it meet these expectations SAP founded the SAP Security Research group, which is looking for students to join its team to work on security topics.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
SAP Security Research identifies and solves research problems relating to software and operational security, and shares its insights with others, particularly product groups at SAP, to drive advances in security and privacy. The group stays at the forefront of security research by tracking trends in security, and by co-innovating through collaborative research with leading universities, partners, and SAP product groups.

SAP Security Research’s objective is to understand new basic principles in research around Anonymization, Machine Learning, Applied Cryptography and Quantum Computing. We analyze the business value for SAP, refine the method and adapt them for SAP. By building prototypes and blueprints for productization, we support the SAP development teams to consume the research results.

We are a young and dynamic team of post-doctoral researchers and PhD Students striving for new ways to protect enterprise systems. As such, we can support you during your internship on academic as well as hands-on architectural questions.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
In this internship, we want to offer you the opportunity to work on post-quantum cryptography. Future quantum computers will break today’s public-key cryptography. Therefore, researchers are working on new cryptographic schemes, so called quantum-safe/post-quantum or quantum-resilient crypto schemes, that are resistant to attacks by both classical and quantum computers. Many of these schemes are now being vetted by NIST. Because the transition to quantum-safe might be a challenging task, our goal is to prepare for a smooth and secure transition.

The goal of this internship is to support us building automatic means that can help a non-expert to assess the performance of different quantum-safe schemes. Your work will be closely related to OpenSSL. You should have a basic understanding of cryptographic schemes and a keen interest in learning the details of the new quantum-safe schemes. Moreover, good programming skill are essential for a successful completion of the internship.

  • Student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences
  • Preferred fields of study: Informatics/Mathematics or similar field of study
