As the market leader in enterprise application software, SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries to run better. From back office to boardroom, warehouse to storefront, desktop to mobile device, SAP empowers people and organizations to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition.

Customers take it for granted that SAP develops and operates trustworthy, secure products and services. To help it meet these expectations SAP founded the SAP Security Research group, which is looking for a PhD student (f/m/d) to join its team to work on applications of machine learning to security.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
SAP Security Research identifies and solves research problems relating to software and operational security, and shares its insights with others, particularly product groups at SAP, to drive advances in security and privacy.

The group stays at the forefront of security research by tracking trends in security, and by co-innovating through collaborative research with leading universities, partners, and SAP product groups.  The group is also able to contribute to, and draw on, the resources of its larger containing organization, the SAP Innovation Center Network.

The Security Research group is looking for a motivated PhD student to work with us on applications of machine learning to security.

Depending on the candidate’s profile the research work will be part of one of our projects on:

  • improving automated detection of vulnerabilities and attacks whether during development or during the operation of complex software systems;

You should have strong analytic skills, programming experience, an attitude to identify and solve research problems and also be willing to dive deeper into the theoretical foundations of new techniques, where necessary. Moreover, we expect you to be able to communicate your research inside SAP and externally in the academic community.

Ideally you have a background in IT Security, with a focus on threat detection or code analysis. You should know programming languages such as Python or Java and demonstrate knowledge of machine learning technologies.
