PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Within the IEG board area, the development organization “SAP Cloud SME Solutions & Content” contributes to SAP’s next growth wave by ensuring that our customers can purchase and implement their desired business processes in the shortest amount of time. Some of these business processes are covered by SAP’s existing business applications. Here we want to provide a business configuration application that hides unnecessary complexity, provides our customers with an enjoyable shopping-like experience, and focuses on delivering predictable results. Other business processes are highly company specific and therefore not covered by standard software. For these specific cases, we intend to provide companies with a business process platform, which they can use to implement and deliver their unique processes to their customers.

The SME Innovations unit supports the ambitions of the SME unit by applying new innovative technologies and business practices into the business process platform and solutions on top.

Now, we are looking for a PhD student (f/m/d) that can support our research and innovative approaches with regards to new business practices in the production area. The goal is to understand and develop a modern production planning system for mid-sized companies that takes new trends, such as Edge Computing, Smart Manufacturing or IoT into account.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

• Do scientific research on the topic of smart manufacturing and how related software solutions have to be developed differently in the future
• Realize concepts on how to create such a solution
• Design and develop fast prototypes and validate with potential customers
• Co-Innovate with customers
• Develop the first MVP to be used by customers
• Learn new technologies and programming paradigms and incorporate them into the concepts and design

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Phd Student (f/m/d)/ doctoral candidate (f/m/d) of a university or a university of applied sciences, preferred fields of study engineering, Manufacturing, or software development with scientific interest in the topic Cloud ERP, Smart Manufacturing, industry 4.0 in which the dissertation will be written
• Basic programming skills
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly and applying them in relevant development
• Great team player
• Strong research skills 
• English fluently, German as a plus  
• Strong sense of commitment and responsibility
• Openness to work in a culturally diverse group
• Strong problem-solving skills

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Excellent master’s degree in engineering, manufacturing or information systems
• Basic experience of doing scientific research
