PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
At SAP we engineer solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality and spread opportunity for our employees and customers across borders and cultures. The Technology & Innovation (T&I) board area is responsible for SAP’s overall platform and technology development such as SAP Cloud Platform and SAP HANA. In addition, T&I drives the incubation and adoption of intelligent technologies like Analytics, SAP Leonardo Machine Learning and IoT across SAP’s product portfolio. The T&I board area is also in charge of SAP’s global innovation agenda and builds new business model- and market-driven innovations to help customers realize the most business value.

As innovation-oriented company, SAP also works closely with academia and among others supports research projects as industry partner of the “Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) Future SOC Lab”. The Lab provides a free of charge high-performance IT landscape for academic research and offers an experimental base for work on innovative concepts in highly complex real-world IT systems. The biannual HPI Future SOC Lab Day presents the ongoing hot topics in research and industry.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

As a student for Software Development and Operations of the HPI’s Future SOC Lab you will be part of the Strategic Projects team which is a technology-focused group that was built to help shaping the future generations of SAP software. You will be working closely with the team on dedicated software engineering challenges. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience and increase your knowledge. 

Tasks of the HPI Future SOC Lab include but are not limited to:

  • Further development of HPI Future SOC Lab’s user portal with Python and Django
  • Analyze the needs of users and shape Lab’s strategy
  • Support management of Lab and its projects including the organization of the one-day conference “HPI Future SOC Lab Day” twice a year
  • Other exciting projects are waiting for you. Examples:
    • Engineering at SAP – an interactive portal for SAP’s developer to learn about the technology strategy with hands-on examples and tutorials 
    • API at SAP – a developer friendly interface to SAP systems making development with SAP APIs even easier 
    • SAPPHIRE and TECHED preparations – creating demos of SAP’s largest and most important customer and developer events 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Student - preferred field(s) of study: Computer Science or related fields
  • Computer skills:  
  • Excellent programming skills in frontend (e.g., JavaScript, Polymer, ReactJS) and/or backend (e.g., Java, SQL, Node.js) technologies as well as source code management (e.g., git) 
  • Knowledge of database systems is a plus (e.g., SAP HANA, CouchDB) 
  • Experience in DevOps is a plus (e.g., Continuous Integration using Jenkins or Travis)  
  • Language skills: Fluent in English and German (written and spoken) 
  • Soft skills: 
  • Eager to learn and hands-on working 
  • Reliable and open-minded 
  • Strong team working skills 
  • Determined to reach a goal in time 
  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks
